Financial Times Work Experience

Last week our work experience with the Financial Times took place. Here is how one of our candidates, Gledi, found the experience.

‘My name is Gledi Ndreu and I’m going to give an insight of my time in work experience with the Financial Times courtesy of the Blind in Business organisation.  To begin the experience, we were introduced to Jacqui Dobson who was a part of the diversity and inclusion team. Jacqui was our mentor for the week and briefed us on the activities that we were going to take part in across the 5 days.

Throughout the first few days, Jacqui gave us an overview on how the Financial Times has developed to be the successful organisation that we know it as today.  I learnt that when running a corporation, its crucial that the branding differentiates you from your competitors.  In terms of the financial times, they ensure that their newspapers are pink. This means that consumers would instantly recognise the news outlet firm.

Another segment of the work experience I really enjoyed was interviewing one of the employees,  Mira Graca who is a part of the human resources team. To add on, she explained how she came to the UK from Portugal and studied politics, nevertheless, she dropped out on her 2nd year in university as she found out the course wasn’t for her. Even though she dropped out, she didn’t let this factor  affect her. To become a member of the financial times HR team, she did various side jobs to gain experience and did a 3rd party private course to qualify for a high positioned job.   This story inspired me the most as I find my self in a similar position to her, and am quite uncertain on what to pursue in the future.

Overall, I found the experience amazing as I got to meet new people such as Tahira, Chloe, Ozmend and many more and got the opportunity to integrate many different but incredible ideas.’
